Open your Bible and read John 12:37-43
“for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.”
John 12:43 · ESVThis one is rarely admitted, so here it is plainly. Some people are not held back by philosophy. They are held back by a brother in law who will not let it go, or a group chat, or a father who would take it as a rejection of how he raised them.
The text says there were people who actually believed Jesus and stayed quiet about it because of what it would cost them socially. That is honest reporting, and it is not written with contempt. It is written with understanding.
Do not minimize it either. In some families the reaction is genuinely painful, and in some parts of the world it is dangerous.
But notice this. Nobody said you have to announce anything tomorrow. What happens between you and God can be entirely between you and God for as long as you need. The door is not a stage.

An honest thing to say to God
“God, I care what people think of me. I am not proud of it, but I am not going to lie to You about it.”
