Day 53 of 60 · What is in the way

Afraid Of What It Costs

Open your Bible and read Mark 8:31-38

“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?”

Mark 8:36 · ESV

Some people are not stuck on the evidence at all. They are fairly convinced and they are stalling, because they can feel what it would ask of them.

That fear is not irrational. Something does die. The right to be the final authority on your own life goes, and if you have fought hard for control, that is the most expensive thing you own.

But look at the trade in that verse honestly. He is not asking you to hand over your life for nothing. He is asking whether the thing you are protecting is worth what it costs to keep.

What are you actually holding onto? A relationship you know is hurting you. A career you built to prove something. The freedom to decide for yourself, which has not made you free. Name it out loud today. Sometimes the thing looks much smaller once it has been said in daylight.

Do this today

Say out loud the one thing you are most afraid of losing if you followed Jesus.

An honest thing to say to God

“God, I think I am more afraid than unconvinced. That is the truth of where I am.”
