Open your Bible and read 1 Corinthians 14:1-5
“For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.”
1 Corinthians 14:2 · ESVThis one makes people nervous, so let us keep it plain. Praying in tongues is a prayer language the Holy Spirit gives you. It is not a performance and it is not for a stage. The verse says it goes straight to God. There are things in you too deep for English, and this is a way for them to get out.
Paul, who wrote most of the New Testament, said he did it more than anybody, and he said the person who prays this way builds himself up. That is not a small thing when you are new and everything feels shaky.
If you want it, ask for it, then open your mouth in faith. He does not take over your tongue like a puppet. You speak, and He gives the words.
This is normal Christianity. It is available to you.
Do this today
Ask God for your prayer language today, out loud, and then give Him a minute of open mouthed faith.
Say this out loud
“I am not afraid of the Holy Spirit. Everything He offers me, I want.”
