Day 47 of 60 · What He offers

A Person, Not A Program

Open your Bible and read John 15:1-15

“No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”

John 15:15 · ESV

If religion is what you are worried about, that worry is reasonable. Religion is a system of requirements with God at the end as a reward. Plenty of people have been handed that and burned out on it, and some of them were burned by churches that should have known better.

What Jesus offered His followers was different in kind. Friends, not staff. He said the difference is that a servant does not know what the master is doing, and a friend does. He let them in.

That is what is on the table. Not a set of rules to adopt, but an actual relationship with a Person who speaks and can be spoken to. Prayer, for now, might feel like talking to somebody through a closed door. That is normal at this stage. Keep talking anyway.

What He wants from you is not performance. It is your affection.

Do this today

Talk to God out loud for two minutes like a person, not a formula, even if it feels strange.

An honest thing to say to God

“God, I do not want another set of rules. If friendship is really on offer, I am interested.”
