“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
2 Peter 3:9 · ESVHell is the doctrine that drives more people out than any other, and it deserves a straight answer instead of a dodge.
Christians who all take Scripture seriously disagree about its nature and its duration. Some hold to conscious torment forever. Some argue the language points to destruction rather than endless suffering. Some hope, without claiming to know, that mercy reaches further than we can see. That range is real, and pretending otherwise is dishonest.
What this verse says plainly is where God's posture sits. Not eager. Not impatient to condemn. The delay you are living in is described as patience toward you.
And hear this clearly. Fear is a terrible reason to believe anything. If the only thing pulling you is being scared of the alternative, that is not what he is after and it never held anyone long.

Answer this honestly: if hell were off the table entirely, would you still want to know if he is real?
