Open your Bible and read Luke 18:9-14
“But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!'”
Luke 18:13 · ESVThere is no formula. No specific sentence unlocks God, and no phrasing gets it wrong enough to disqualify you. He is after your heart, not your wording.
Read the two men in the story. One had the polished prayer and a genuinely impressive record. The other could not even lift his eyes and got out seven words. Jesus said the second man went home right with God, and the first did not. Seven honest words beat a flawless speech. That is the whole point of the parable.
So if you are close to saying yes, here are honest words to work from, and change them freely to fit your own mouth. God, I believe Jesus died for me and that You raised Him. I am done running my own life. Forgive me and take it.
Only say it if you mean it. He knows the difference and He is not in a hurry.
Do this today
Say those words out loud if you mean them, and if you do not mean them yet, say that instead.
An honest thing to say to God
“God, I believe Jesus died for me and that You raised Him. I am done running my own life. Forgive me and take it.”
