Open your Bible and read Colossians 2:8-15
“by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.”
Colossians 2:14 · ESVPicture a ledger with your name at the top. Everything is on it. Not just the public failures, the private ones too, the thoughts nobody heard, the person you were at your worst.
Christians say that at the cross Jesus wrote a blank check for all of it. Every sin, every piece of baggage, signed in His own blood. Not a partial payment you finish off with good behavior. The whole balance, canceled, and the record itself nailed up where everyone could see it was settled.
Notice the amount was never filled in. That is the scandal of it. He wrote the check before knowing what you would spend, which means what you did last year and what you will do next year were already covered when He wrote it.
If that claim is false, it is a cruel thing to tell a guilty person. If it is true, it changes everything. Which is it?
