Open your Bible and read John 11:17-27

Martha already had a respectable belief. She tells him she knows her brother will rise again someday, at the end of everything. Distant. Doctrinal. Safe.

He moves it from a someday to a person standing in front of her, and then asks her directly if she believes this.

Everything in Christianity hangs on one historical question, and it is worth naming plainly. If he stayed dead, the whole thing is a beautiful ethical tradition built on a mistake, and Paul himself says as much in his own letter. If he did not stay dead, then nothing else you assumed about reality is quite safe.

There is no version of this where the claim is merely inspiring. It is either the single most important event that ever happened in human history, or it never happened at all. Martha answered him honestly, right there, out loud. You get the same question.
