Open your Bible and read John 6:25-40
“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
John 6:35 · ESVThe day before, he fed thousands of people from almost nothing. They come back the next morning, and he tells them flatly that they are here for another free lunch.
Then he offers himself instead of bread, and by the end of the chapter most of the crowd has walked off. He does not chase them. He does not soften it to keep the numbers up. He turns to the twelve and asks if they want to leave too.
That is strange behavior for someone building a following. Frauds do not thin their own crowds.
The claim underneath it is worth sitting with. There is a kind of hunger that eating does not touch, and most of us have spent years feeding it with other things. He says he is what it is actually for.
Do this today
Eat one meal today paying full attention, and notice what it satisfies and what it does not.
An honest thing to say to God
“There is a hunger in me that food has never once touched.”
