Day 1 of 60 · Who is this man?

The Word Became Flesh

Open your Bible and read John 1:1-14

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:14 · ESV

Start with the claim itself, not with a religion. The Gospel of John opens by saying that the God behind everything showed up as a person you could have had dinner with. Not a symbol. Not a nice teacher his fans promoted after he died. A man with a hometown and a mother who worried about him.

You do not have to believe that today. You only have to be willing to look at it. Most people who reject Jesus are rejecting a version of him they inherited from somebody else, a bumper sticker, a bad church, a politician. That is fair. It is also not the same thing as reading the accounts and deciding for yourself.

So for the next thirty days, go to the source. Ask hard questions of it. If it cannot survive your honest attention, it was never worth your life anyway.

Do this today

Read John 1:1-14 slowly, out loud if you have a room to yourself.

An honest thing to say to God

“God, if you are real, I want to know. I am willing to look.”
